Konrad Hummler

Konrad Hummler was born in St. Gallen in 1953 to a family with an open and lively interest in politics and culture. While growing up, he focused as much of his energy on diverse activities in youth organisations as he did on his school education. Nevertheless, he was a successful student and, upon earning his school-leaving diploma with a focus on Latin, he studied law at the University of Zurich. In 1978–1979, Konrad Hummler was invited by monetarist Karl Brunner to study economics at the University of Rochester in New York State. He culminated his studies with a doctoral thesis on the interface between law and information technology.

After earning his doctorate, Konrad Hummler commenced a position in the financial analysis department at the former Union Bank of Switzerland. He soon transferred into the personal team of Dr Robert Holzach, then chairman of the board of directors. In 1990, Konrad Hummler chose to pursue an independent course and became a Managing Partner at Wegelin & Co. Private Bankers in St. Gallen – which, at the time, was still a small.

Alongside his main profession as Managing Partner at Wegelin & Co., Konrad Hummler is a board member at several banks, in several small- and medium-sized enterprises, and at the media group NZZ. In addition, he serves on the council of the Swiss National Bank. Moreover, Dr Hummler presides over the chamber of commerce for the cantons of St. Gallen and Appenzell.

Konrad Hummler is married and has four daughters. In his free time, he loves mountain-climbing, riding his mountain bike and playing the the violin.
